Barn Repair
Summer of 2020- we are beginning a big project- The restoration of the barn in our back yard.
The building has no wiring or insulation. The foundation is wooden rafters set across field rocks. Over the years the wood has rotted out and or woodchucks have gnawed away at the foundation leaving numerous openings allowing animals to burrow underneath the structure.
Here are some google earth screen shots of the house and barn.
On the NW  corner a tree grew into the barn, causing a large gap when it was removed. In Spring of 2020 I began digging out along the west side of the barn to examine the condition of the foundation. I removed many many rocks-The rocks shown in these photos are about 1/3 of all that I dug up.
I planned on doing the work myself but after careful consideration of my abilities and time we decided to have the work done by a friend with many years of experience in this sort of work. On certain days I have pitched in here and there but "John H." has done the real work.  He started on July 13,2020. Overall- He will be restoring the foundation along all four sides of the building, installing interior support where required, framing out walls for doors and windows as required.

I have taken videos of the progress he's made. The videos can be found on page 3 of this Barn Repair Project

I'll begin with a couple of "Before" pictures and then a pair of "After" pictures.  Depending on your level of curiosity you can stop soon or continue to follow the progress links at the bottom of the page.
